Discussion Tools and Impact Report

The following resources were produced in order to expand the context of and add deepen the breadth of the conversation around Saving Mes Aynak. The tools delve deeper into the issues and stories within the film such as the history of Mes Aynak, Buddhism's history in Afghanistan, the fight to preserve cultural heritage, the environmental impact of mining, and the impact on the lives of Afghan villagers, while also providing updates on what has happened since filming.

The resources were  produced by Blueshift Education and Kartemquin Films, with funding support from the David and Reva Logan Foundation. 

Screening Brochure

Download and print out copies of this screening brochure to distribute at your community screening! The pamphlet is a succinct resource for people who want to learn more about Mes Aynak and how they can personally get involved to help save the site. It is intended to be folded as a three-panel, front-and-back brochure.

Discussion Guide

This screening guide is for diverse audiences who want to learn more about the beauty and importance of Afghanistan’s rich cultural heritage, to understand the scope of loss and harm the planned open-pit mining could cause, and to undertake concrete actions that will build on the movement that has already begun to preserve Mes Aynak and other global heritage sites. It is not meant to be a comprehensive resource for understanding the many complexities involved in the situation. Rather, this guide is meant to provide context, spark dialogue, and encourage further research about and activism for the issues present in the fight to save Mes Aynak. At the end of this guide is a collection of discussion questions and suggested audience engagement strategies for using this film in a community screening setting. 

Impact Report

See how far and wide Saving Mes Aynak has been able to share it's timely and important story and what positive, real world changes have come about for the site, Qadir, and all involved with the film. Though the fight to save Mes Aynak is far from over, because of our many supporters around the globe, we have been able to create an international calling that has successfully stalled the destruction of the site.
